Chavara Cultural Centre, Calicut stands as a vibrant beacon of art, dialogue, and community in the heart of Kozhikode, the storied ‘Harbour of Truth’. Established by the CMI Congregation’s St. Thomas Province in the late 1990s, the Centre embodies the vision of St. Chavara, whose teachings emphasised love, compassion, and societal harmony. Conceived as a neutral, non-sectarian space, it fosters dialogue, nurtures creativity, and promotes education, culture, and social engagement across all sections of society.
Chavara Kalakendra, a key initiative of the CMI St. Thomas Province, serves as a hub for cultural and artistic enrichment. This dedicated wing provides certified training in music, dance, visual arts, and chess, fostering talent and creativity among youth and enthusiasts alike. The Centre collaborates with prestigious institutions including Trinity College London, Chetana Music Academy (Thrissur), Pracheen Kala Kendra (Chandigarh), and Akhil Bharatiya Gandharva Mahavidyalaya Mandal (Mumbai) - ensuring that every learner receives quality training recognized across India and abroad.
